Khalid               Sheikh               Mohammad               and               four               of               his               accused               conspirators               will               be               coming               to               New               York               in               about               three               weeks               for               a               criminal               trial.

The               location               where               he               will               likely               be               held               is               in               Lower               Manhattan,               at               the               Metropolitan               Correction               center               close               to               the               WTC               and               the               Brooklyn               Bridge.

The               accused               9-11               mastermind               will               be               tried               under               the               same               due               process               laws               to               which               American               citizens               are               entitled.

Attorney               General               Eric               Holder               announced               the               decision               at               an               11:00               news               conference               today.

A               detention               and               trial               in               lower               Manhattan               will               present               many               problems.

Besides               being               affronted               by               the               offense               of               having               the               Al               Quaeda               operatives               who               killed               close               to               3000               people               at               the               World               Trade               Center               site,               the               trial               will               present               traffic,               security,               and               budgeting               problems               for               the               city               of               New               York,               already               struggling               with               declining               tax               revenues               and               job               loss.
               While               President               Obama,               speaking               from               Tokyo,               said               that               Khalid               Sheikh               Mohammad               and               the               other               alleged               planners               of               the               attacks               would               "be               subject               to               the               most               exacting               standards               of               justice,"               it's               likely               that               the               adjudicative               process               will               be               subject               to               the               paralysis               of               unending               defense               trial               motions.

The               methods               by               which               information               was               obtained               from               and               about               the               prisoners               will               itself               be               subject               to               scrutiny               and,               if               the               trial               follows               typical               patterns               of               civilian               trials,               much               of               the               evidence               will               be               contested               by               the               defense               and               some               of               the               evidence               is               likely               to               be               disallowed.
               Yet,               outrage               is               widespread               and               likely               to               widen               the               gap               between               Obama               supporters               and               his               critics.

Representative               Peter               King,               of               New               York,               stated               to               a               Fox               News               reporter               that               Obama's               decision               to               bring               the               accused               terrorists               to               New               York               for               trial               was               the               "worst               decision               by               an               American               president               in               history."
               Debra               Burlingame,               whose               brother               died               in               the               9/11               attacks,               said               she               knew               such               a               decision               was               forthcoming               from               the               Obama               administration.

In               a               voice               sounding               like               a               combination               of               tears               and               outrage,               Burlingame               said               she               was               outraged               that               the               men               accused               of               planning               and               implementing               the               attack               were               being               brought               within               a               few               blocks               from               ground               zero.

"
               "It's               going               to               be               agony,               and               these               men               wanted               to               plead               guilty               in               military               court               ,               said               Burlingame.
               Burlingame               pointed               out               that,               had               that               been               allowed               by               the               government,               there               would               be               no               need               of               opening               raw               wounds               for               victim               families.

Burlingame               feared               that               it               would               take               "years"               just               to               examine               the               evidence               presented               in               5,000               documents.

Compounding               the               difficulty               is               the               fact               that               Khalid               Sheikh               Mohammad               was               water               boarded               and               says               his               confession               was               obtained               under               torture.

The               Obama               administration               has               outlawed               water               boarding               or               other               measures               in               interrogations               it               regards               as               extreme.
               Tim               Brown,               a               New               York               firefighter               and               founder               of               a               victim               support               group               thebravest.com,               says               he               "doesn't               understand               the               Obama               decision."               Interviewed               on               Fox               New               by               Juliet               Huddy,               Brown               says               he               considers               the               World               Trade               Center               an               attack               of               war               and               to               treat               the               alleged               perpetrators               as               civilian               criminals               is               an               insult               to               firefighters,               civilians,               and               families               of               victims.

Brown               sees               the               civilian               trials               as               providing               a               platform               for               the               defendants               and               their               supporters               to               spew               hatred               of               the               U.S.
               His               organization               of               concerned               citizens               and               firefighters
               Contacted               by               phone,               former               New               York               Governor               George               Pataki               pointed               out               the               potential               for               a               similar               propaganda               fiasco,               recalling               the               trials               following               the               1993               Twin               Towers               World               Trade               Center               attacks.

Pataki               says               a               criminal               trial               in               New               York               jeopardizes               our               security               and               reveals               secrets               to               terrorists.

He               used               the               example               that               Usama               Bin               Laden               was               tipped               off               to               U.S.

investigative               interest               by               information               obtained               during               that               civilian               trial.
               "I               think               this               is               a               disgrace,"               Pataki               said.
               The               prevalent               feeling               of               those               interviewed               this               morning               on               Fox               News               was               outrage               but               the               criminal               trial               proceedings               are               supported               by               another               Fox               interview               with               Democratic               Representative               Joe               Sestak               of               Pennsylvania.

Sestak               told               Fox               News'               Bill               Hemmer               that               it               was               important               to               uphold               American               ideals,               and               objected               to               the               means               by               which               investigators               obtained               information               from               suspects               in               the               9-11               attacks.

    If               you               are               a               tourist               who               is               planning               on               visiting               New               York               City,               Ground               Zero,               the               site               of               the               former               World               Trade               Center               Twin               Towers               will               certainly               be               on               your               itinerary.

    Here               are               some               easy               one               hour               long               side               trips               across               the               Hudson               River               to               capture               the               famous               downtown               New               York               City               skyline               in               all               its               glory,               along               with               the               new               One               World               Trade               Center,               formerly               known               as               Freedom               Tower,               towering               above               everything               else.

    Just               remember,               each               of               these               spots               have               9/11               memorials,               so               be               respectful               of               your               surroundings.

    These               neighborhoods               lost               several               men               and               women               in               the               World               Trade               Center               collapse,               and               even               ten               years               later,               the               skyline               brings               back               memories               of               a               horrific               day               for               area               residents.

    New               1               World               Trade               Center
                   The               new               1               World               Trade               Center,               the               tallest               building               in               New               York               City               as               of               April               30,               2012,               will               complete               construction               in               2014.

    Over               100               floors               of               the               total               104               floors               are               now               complete,               and               the               building               now               stands               at               1,271               feet               above               the               ground.

    When               complete,               the               building               is               expected               to               be               1,776               feet               tall,               including               its               408               foot               roof-top               needle.

    It               is               no               surprise               that               the               Freedom               Tower,               or               One               World               Trade               Center               building               is               clearly               visible               from               as               far               north               as               the               George               Washington               Bridge.

                   Public               Transportation
                   The               World               Trade               Center               area               is               well               served               by               public               transportation,               both               PATH               subway               train               and               NY               Waterway               Ferry               Service.

    The               PATH               train               accepts               Metrocards               and               runs               frequently.

    NY               Waterway               fare               is               $6               from               the               downtown               ferry               stops               to               NJ               and               operates               on               a               schedule.
                   Read               on               to               find               the               best               places               tourists               can               take               public               transportation               to               capture               amazing               views               of               the               World               Trade               Center               and               downtown               New               York               City,               and               return               back               to               Ground               Zero               in               under               an               hour.

    Located               in               the               gold               coast               of               New               Jersey,               each               viewing               spot               is               extremely               safe,               easily               accessible               by               public               transportation,               less               than               20               minutes               from               New               York               City               and               offers               amazing,               panoramic               views               of               Manhattan,               especially               downtown               New               York               City               and               the               World               Trade               Center.

    Although               these               spots               lend               to               excellent               photography               opportunities               all               day               and               year               round,               the               best               time               to               go               is               late               afternoon,               when               the               setting               sun               casts               beautiful,               dramatic               reflections               on               the               glass               buildings.
                   
                   Exchange               Place,               Jersey               City,               NJ
                   Take               the               NY               Waterway               Ferry               from               the               World               Financial               Center               to               Paulus               Hook.

    Alternatively,               you               can               take               the               PATH               train               from               World               Trade               Center               to               Newport,               and               get               off               at               Exchange               Place,               which               is               the               first               stop.

    The               pier               at               Exchange               Place,               a               massive               deck               built               from               sturdy               Trex               material,               offers               panoramic               views               of               New               York               City,               from               the               George               Washington               Bridge               to               the               Statue               of               Liberty.

    Situated               directly               across               the               World               Financial               Center,               it               offers               the               most               dramatic,               close               up               view               of               downtown               Manhattan,               with               One               World               Trade               Center               towering               over               the               skyline.

    There               is               a               small               9/11               WTC               memorial               on               Exchange               Place.
                   
                   Newport,               Jersey               City,               NJ
                   Ferry               service               from               downtown               NYC               is               no               longer               offered               to               Newport,               NJ               but               tourists               can               take               the               PATH               train               and               get               off               at               the               last               stop,               Newport               Pavonia,               and               walk               to               the               waterfront,               which               is               a               couple               of               minutes               away.

    You               will               pass               a               Starbucks               and               Komegashi               Japanese               restaurant               to               your               right.

    Although               the               area               consists               of               several               highrise               buildings               behind               a               gate,               the               waterfront               walkway               is               in               fact               open               to               the               public.

    On               your               way               to               the               waterfront,               pause               at               the               small,               yet               poignant               9/11               WTC               memorial,               which               provides               a               straight               view               to               the               former               World               Trade               Center               twin               towers.
                   
                   Pier               A               or               Pier               C               Park,               Hoboken,               NJ
                   Downtown               Hoboken               is               serviced               both               by               NY               Waterway               ferry               as               well               as               PATH               train.

    Pier               A               Park,               located               on               Sinatra               Drive               between               First               and               Second               Street               offers               a               lush               Great               Lawn               with               panoramic               views               of               New               York               City,               from               the               Statue               to               Liberty               to               the               George               Washington               Bridge.

    A               glass               memorial               for               9/11               victims,               oriented               toward               the               former               World               Trade               Center               is               expected               to               be               built               on               Pier               A               Park,               Hoboken.

    Walking               north               on               the               Sinatra               Drive               waterfront               pathway               will               bring               you               to               the               brand               new               Pier               C               park,               a               kidney               shaped               $25               million               marvel               that               is               built               above               the               Hudson               River.

    The               views               of               New               York               City,               including               downtown               and               World               Trade               Center               are               out               of               the               world.

    New               York               City               has               one               of               the               greatest               assemblages               of               museums               in               the               world.

    In               a               mile               long               corridor               lining               Central               Park               several               of               the               city's               premier               museums               offer               a               glimpse               into               art,               science               history               and               culture.

    You               could               spend               days               pouring               over               the               countless               gorgeous               and               fascinating               exhibits               in               any               one               of               these               museums               but               during               a               short               visit               to               New               York               city               with               limited               time,               here               is               a               selection               of               the               finest               and               most               important               exhibits.

    1.

    19th               Century               European               Painting               and               Sculpture               -               The               Metropolitan               Museum               of               Art,               on               its               second               floor,               houses               some               of               the               most               beautiful               and               valuable               paintings               and               sculptures               in               its               19th               century               European               exhibit.

    The               galleries               of               paintings               revolve               around               a               central               corridor               filled               with               sculptures               and               paintings.
                   My               favorite               sculptures               are               those               by               Rodin,               which               are               stark,               black               figures               and               eerily               lifelike               busts.

    The               sculpture               Three               Shades               is               a               harrowing               figure               of               three               standing               figures.

    This               sculpture               evokes               in               the               mind               images               from               the               darkest               corners               of               Dante's               Inferno.

    The               many               busts               and               figures               of               French               writer               Honoré               de               Balzac,               created               in               preparation               for               the               writer's               grand               memorial,               are               a               sublime               study               of               a               master               at               work,               detailing               various               stage               of               the               sculptor's               creative               process.

    The               fine               touch               around               the               eyes               in               the               plaster               head               of               Balzac               shows               not               only               attention               to               detail               but               the               ability               to               imbue               a               sculpture               with               life.
                   The               painting               galleries               are               like               a               hall               of               fame               for               European               painting.

    Works               by               Van               Gogh,               Monet,               Degas,               Seurat               and               Gauguin               line               the               walls.

    Monet's               Rouen               Cathedral,               Garden               at               Saint               Adresse               and               Bridge               Over               a               Pool               of               Water               Lilies               are               among               the               acclaimed               artist's               most               famous               works.

    Water               Lilies               and               Houses               of               Parliament               are               mesmerizing               examples               of               Monet's               ability               capture               the               peculiar               effects               of               light,               shadow               and               weather               on               his               subjects.

    You               can               spend               hours               ogling               such               works               of               art               or               meander               through               the               Victorian               style               rooms               admiring               each               style               and               artist               in               passing.

    The               Met's               collection               of               Van               Gogh               paintings               is               also               quite               captivating.

    Irises               and               Wheat               Field               with               Cypresses               are               stunning               examples               of               Van               Gogh's               unique               ability               to               use               swirling               colors               to               express               the               motion               and               light               of               his               subjects.
                   The               Met               is               a               fantasy               world               of               stirring               images               and               fascinating               historical               artifacts.

    You               could               wander               this               treasure               house               for               days               on               end.

    The               19th               century               gallery               is               the               crowning               jewel               on               5th               Avenue,               however.
                   2.

    The               Temple               of               Dendur               -               In               a               large               room               with               an               uptown               view               of               Central               Park's               trees               and               green               fields               sits               an               entire               temple               taken               from               the               shores               of               Ancient               Egypt               and               given               to               the               United               States               as               a               gift.

    The               Temple               is               the               centerpiece               of               the               Met's               large               and               beautiful               Egyptian               Art               collection.

    The               Temple               of               Dendur               was               constructed               during               the               Roman               Period               about               15               BC,               fifteen               years               after               the               death               of               Queen               Cleopatra,               Egypt's               last               pharaoh.

    The               temple               is               an               architectural               piece               of               propaganda.

    It               was               commissioned               by               Emperor               Augustus               and               depicts               Augustus               praying               and               worshiping               the               Egyptian               gods.

    The               temple               was               in               danger               of               being               submerged               by               the               construction               of               a               dam               in               Egypt               and               was               given               the               United               States.

    In               addition               to               its               beautiful               sandstone               architecture               there               are               many               graffiti               inscriptions               that               have               survived               the               centuries               during               which               the               temple               stood               in               Nubia.
                   3.

    The               Ross               Hall               of               Meteorites               -               Located               in               the               American               Museum               of               Natural               History               in               the               rock               and               gem               section,               the               hall               of               meteorites               contains               large               and               small               meteorites               that               have               bombarded               the               planet.

    In               addition               to               the               meteorites,               the               hall               contains               several               moon               rocks               from               the               Apollo               moon               landings.

    There               are               not               many               places               where               the               general               public               can               come               face               to               face               with               so               many               priceless               artifacts               from               the               heavens.

    This               is               one               of               my               favorite               exhibits               in               the               museum.

    When               coupled               with               the               Hayden               planetarium               and               the               outer               space               exhibits               that               surround               the               globe-like               theatre,               the               hall               of               meteorites               is               a               fascinating               exhibit               for               any               space               buff.
                   4.

    Hall               of               Dinosaurs               -               the               American               Museum               of               Natural               History               houses               one               the               most               comprehensive               and               impressive               dinosaur               fossil               collections               in               the               world.

    The               museum               has               arranged               the               exhibits               so               that               you               can               begin               at               the               earliest               reptilian               fossils               and               trace               the               development               of               dinosaurs               through               the               Triassic,               Jurassic               and               Cretaceous               periods.

    The               museum               has               towering               Tyrannosaurus               Rex               and               Brachiosaurus               exhibits               that               are               sure               to               captivate               the               imaginations               of               small               children               who               see               them.

    The               museum               also               exhibits               some               more               recognizable               creatures               like               giant               turtles               and               alligators               from               eons               ago.

    Continuing               through               vertebrate               evolution               you               can               see               fossils               of               large               mammals               from               the               ice               age               like               wooly               mammoths               and               mastodons.
                   5.

    September               11th               2001               Exhibit               -               The               New               York               Historical               Society               Museum               houses               enormous               collections               of               artifacts               detailing               the               history               of               American               culture               and               New               York               City               history.

    The               museum               contains               a               life               mask               of               Abraham               Lincoln               and               a               death               mask               of               Aaron               Burr.

    There               are               dozens               portraits               of               American               families               from               the               17th               century               through               the               19th.

    There               are               also               many               landscape               paintings               from               America's               nascent               art               movement               during               the               early               19th               century.

    In               addition               to               these               exhibitions               the               museum               has               undertaken               the               collection,               perseveration               and               exhibition               of               artifacts               from               the               September               11th               2001               terrorist               attacks.

    The               collection               contains               fragments               of               the               jet               liners,               pieces               of               the               fallen               twin               towers,               helmets               and               uniform               fragments               from               the               New               York               Fire               Department               and               New               York               Police               Department.

    These               artifacts               have               come               from               the               rescue               and               salvage               operation               following               the               disaster               as               well               as               private               donations               by               individuals               who               were               involved               with               these               horrific               attacks.

    This               exhibit               is               both               harrowing               and               moving.

    Some               objects               are               twisted               beyond               all               recognizable               shapes               from               the               flames               that               pulled               the               proud               towers               to               the               ground.

    The               exhibit               is               as               much               a               shrine               as               an               historic               showpiece.

    You               can               see               history               being               made               and               recorded               before               your               very               eyes               as               this               collection               grows.
                   New               York               City,               itself,               is               a               giant               classroom               if               you               know               where               to               look.

    The               city               is               older               than               the               United               States               and               has               borne               witness               to               some               the               most               important               events               in               American               history.

    There               are               many               other               museums               and               exhibits               to               be               seen               as               you               wander               Manhattan's               busy               streets.

    These               suggestions               are               but               a               small               fragment               of               what               you               can               find.

    Explore               Manhattan               and               indeed               the               city               at               large               with               an               open               mind.
